Oguzhan Atay, PhD
A BillionToOne co-founder, Oguzhan believes that diagnostics can be made much more powerful, accurate, and affordable if they are engineered to be quantitative. Oguzhan helped develop our proprietary molecular counting platform. He has led the Company since its inception and raised more than $200M in funding including from venture capital funds and investors who previously invested in tech companies such as SpaceX, Box, Spotify, Palantir, Braintree, and biotech companies such as Counsyl, WebMD, and Omada Health.Oguzhan received his PhD from Stanford University, where his work was published on the Cover of Cell Systems. He graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Princeton University with a bachelor’s in molecular biology and minors in physics, computer science, and applied mathematics.


David Tsao, PhD
A BillionToOne co-founder, David believes that applying engineering principles to biology will be transformative for medicine. He is the original inventor of our molecular counting platform and has presented BillionToOne’s clinical trial results at a variety of national conferences. David oversees all technology developments at BillionToOne.He received a PhD in bioengineering from Rice University, where he was awarded a Nanobiology training fellowship. David has a bachelor’s degree in physics, cum laude, from Princeton University with minors in biophysics and engineering management systems. While at Princeton, he was twice awarded the Shenstone Prize in Physics.

Ross Taylor, MBA
Ross Taylor joined BillionToOne as Chief Financial Officer in January 2024. Ross has 30 years of financial leadership experience spanning roles as chief financial officer for two public companies and as an equity research analyst on Wall Street. Ross was Chief Financial Officer for Codexis, Inc. from 2019 to 2023. In addition, he was Chief Financial Officer of Abaxis, Inc. from August 2015 to July 2018 when Zoetis acquired Abaxis, and Vice President of Business Development & Investor Relations of Abaxis from October 2014 through July 2015. Prior to Abaxis, Ross worked in equity research at various Wall Street firms including CL King & Associates, UBS, Smith Barney, and CJ Lawrence. Mr. Taylor earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Columbia Business School and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Duke University.


Gary Palmer, MD, MBA, JD
Dr. Palmer joined BillionToOne in January 2023 as Chief Medical Officer, Oncology. He has held senior leadership positions at multiple successful biotechnology companies. He was Vice President of Medical Affairs at Genomic Health. He served as Chief Medical Officer of On-Q-ity, a circulating tumor cell company. Subsequently, he was Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs at Foundation Medicine, Chief Medical Officer at NantHealth, and most recently Chief Medical Officer at Tempus. Prior to these and several other roles in industry, Dr. Palmer served as a medical oncologist in both academia and in the community setting, including serving as the director of the Medical Breast Service at the University of California, Davis, Cancer Center and Chief of Medical Oncology at the Mercy Health System, Sacramento, California.Dr. Palmer is a magna cum laude graduate of Yale University and a graduate of the Stanford University School of Medicine. He did his internal medicine training at the Boston City Hospital and his oncology fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of California, Davis, and a Masters in Public Health (MPH) from U.C.L.A. As well, Dr. Palmer holds a J.D. degree and is admitted as an attorney to the State Bar of California.


Haywood Brown, MD
A distinguished obstetrician and gynecologist with over three decades of experience in academic leadership, clinical care, and research, Dr. Brown has dedicated his career to maternal and fetal health, with an emphasis on addressing health disparities. Dr. Brown served in numerous local and national leadership positions, including as the past President of American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine (SMFM), the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society (AGOS), and as the former Obstetrics and Gynecology Section Chair for the National Medical Association. Most recently, he was USF Health’s Senior Associate Vice President of Academic and Faculty Affairs and Vice Dean of Faculty Affairs. Previously, Dr. Brown served as the Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University Medical Center, where he held both the Roy T. Parker and F. Bayard Carter Endowed Professorships.From 2017-2018, Dr. Brown served as the 68th President of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), where he focused on women’s health equity and postpartum care. During his tenure as President, he advocated for maternal mortality prevention and affordable contraception as an essential health benefit under the Affordable Care Act, and for the establishment of nationwide State Maternal Mortality Reviews.Dr. Brown earned his undergraduate degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and his Medical Degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences, Knoxville, and his fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine/Grady Memorial Hospital.


Shan Riku, MBA
Shan joined BillionToOne in January 2019. She oversees clinical and software product management, marketing, clinical, and medical affairs at BillionToOne. Shan is passionate about developing and delivering life-changing diagnostic products to patients and providers.She has over 15 years of experience in launching and managing a wide range of products from software products to precision diagnostics clinical assays. Shan started her career at McKinsey & Co., where she worked with Fortune 100 companies on variousproduct, branding, and go-to-market strategy projects. Shan holds an MBA from Stanford University, an MPA/ID from Harvard University, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.


John Lister
John serves as our Chief Administrative Officer, where he leads the People, Legal, IT and RA/QA teams. Previously, John held various leadership positions for Dexcom, a continuous glucose monitoring company. There, he served on the executive leadership team, and led the Legal, People and International teams as Dexcom grew from 70 employees to 6,000+ and from $0 in revenue to $1.5B+. Most recently, John served as COO for Tidepool, a startup in the diabetes software space.


Tom Lynch, JD
Tom Lynch joined BillionToOne as our first General Counsel in October 2022. He brings over 20 years of experience leading life science teams to bring impactful solutions for patients. Prior to joining us, he served as Chief Compliance Officer, Advanced Healthcare Solutions at Fortive Corporation. From 2018 to 2021, Tom served as the Chief Legal Officer at Nuwellis, a publicly traded, medical device company. Tom served as the Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel at Orexigen Therapeutics, a publicly traded, biotech company, from 2015 to 2018. Between 2002 and 2015, he held various senior legal and compliance positions at Boston Scientific Corporation and Novartis Pharma, including three years heading the global Neuroscience legal team in Switzerland.Tom began his legal career representing public and private companies at Dorsey & Whitney LLP. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University, a juris doctorate degree from Boston College Law School and a master’s degreein teaching from University of St. Thomas.


Nancy Johnson, MT (ASCP)
Nancy joined BillionToOne in 2019. Nancy has a passion for building and leading commercial sales teams. She believes in the empowerment of individuals to achieve personal and professional goals. Nancy brings more than 20 years of diagnostic sales leadership experience in both start-up and large-scale sales organizations. Most recently Nancy played an instrumental role in Foundation Medicine’s commercial strategy and execution, building and leading her sales team to success. Prior to Foundation Medicine, she held several commercial leadership positions at various molecular diagnostic companies.Nancy started her career as a board-certified Medical Technologist and holds a BS in Medical Technology from Creighton University.


John ten Bosch, PhD, FACMG
John joined BillionToOne in September 2020. He has a passion for genomics, laboratory medicine, and providing quality care to the patients he serves. John has over 10 years of experience providing leadership to high complexity CLIA laboratories including regulatory oversight, clinical laboratory operations, and test development. He joins BillionToOne from Kaiser Permanente where he served both as Laboratory Director and Director of Quality in the Molecular Pathology and Cytogenetics laboratories.John received his PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkeley and served as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics at Stanford and UCLA.


Lisa Edelmann, PhD
Lisa joined BillionToOne in September of 2023. Recognized nationally as an expert in population-based carrier screening and has published extensively on Ashkenazi Jewish genetic disorders, Lisa has developed several novel test methods, including the identification of individuals that are at increased risk of being silent carriers for spinal muscular atrophy as well as the use of genetic ancestry in pan-ethnic carrier screening. With more than 18 years of experience as a clinical laboratory leader and CLIA director, Lisa was a co-founder of Sema4 and held the title of Chief Diagnostics Officer from 2017 to 2022. Prior to her time at Sema4, Lisa was the Executive Director of the Mount Sinai Genetic Testing Laboratory.Lisa received her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from The Albert Einstein College of Medicine and received her fellowship training from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai where she became board certified in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Clinical Cytogenetics. Lisa currently holds the academic title of Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences at Mount Sinai.


Carrie McGehee
Carrie McGehee joined the BillionToOne team in August 2021. Carrie is passionate about expanding access to novel diagnostic tests and is recognized for her ability to gain coverage and contracts with Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies. Her work has been defined by developing and implementing strategic and innovative ways to overcome challenges that accelerate top and bottom-line growth. Carrie brings over 20 years of experience working with molecular diagnostic companies and has held several leadership positions including 11 years at Genzyme Genetics and 6 years at Sequenom Center for Molecular Medicine, the first company to bring non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) to the market. Carrie and her team were instrumental in policy development for NIPT and contracted with over 200 payers in the US.Carrie started her career in healthcare as a neonatal intensive care and pediatric Registered Nurse. She graduated from North Texas Central College with a degree in Nursing.


Cory Jones
Cory joined BillionToOne in December 2023. Cory oversees brand and growth marketing for BillionToOne corporate and product brands Unity and NorthStar. He brings more than 20 years of experience in marketing across many sectors including Tech, Hospitality, Telecom, Travel, and Retail. Most recently Cory was CMO at a fast growing Telepsychiatry brand where he found a passion for healthcare.Cory started his career in management consulting with Accenture and holds a BBA in Strategic Management from University of North Texas.


Jennifer Hoskovec, MS, CGC
Jennifer joined BillionToOne in July 2020. As a certified genetic counselor with over 17 years of clinical experience, Jen is committed to ensuring patients and providers are supported and educated about the options and utility of prenatal testing. Jen joins BillionToOne after 17 years as a prenatal genetic counselor at UTHealth where she led a team of genetic counselors providing patient care in MFM clinics across the city of Houston. Jen has extensive volunteer and leadership experience within national societies such as American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and National Society of Genetic Counselors. She served as president of NSGC in 2014.Jen earned her MS in genetic counseling from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston and her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Truman State University.


Bryce Moller, MBA
Bryce joined BillionToOne in June 2023 as the Vice President of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs. Bryce has worked in the medical device and molecular diagnostic space for over 26 years. Most recently, Bryce was the Vice President of Quality at Lucira Health where he was responsible for leading to market the first ever FDA approved direct-to-consumer multiplex Covid/Flu diagnostic test.Prior to joining Lucira Health, Bryce has held various leadership roles in Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and Continuous Improvement at companies such as Becton Dickinson, DJO Global, Zimmer, and Cardinal Health.Bryce is a lean champion and change ambassador who believes in a proactive quality approach that reduces costs, improves productivity, increases overall quality, and improves customer loyalty.Bryce holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, a Master of Science degree in Manufacturing Management, a Master of Science degree in Operations Management, an MBA in Leadership, and is a Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt and Kepner Tregoe (KT) Trainer.Bryce will play a critical role in Continuous Improvement, Regulatory Strategy, and Quality implementation at BillionToOne.


Brent Kirk
Brent joined BillionToOne in July 2019. He believes that one size does not fit all with hospitals, physicians, and patients. Brent drives our sales strategy and operations teams to ensure customer loyalty while improving the satisfaction of both internal and external partners. An unrelenting executionist, Brent has fiercely loyal customers and has helped multiple start-ups with hyper-growth plans from series A through IPO.Brent graduated from the University of Arizona and has a history of success in the tech and biotech industries.


Gemma English
Gemma English joined the BillionToOne team in April 2023. Gemma is passionate about building winning teams and resolving payer issues, transforming companies through reimbursement success. She believes in leading with collaboration and innovation to navigate the ever-changing realm of reimbursement. Gemma brings over 2 decades of experience in reimbursement, including start-ups and public companies. Gemma has been in leadership roles at Sequenom Laboratories, Invitae, Pathnostics and Bridge Diagnostics. Gemma has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.


Vaghar Haghiri
Vaghar joined BillionToOne in December of 2021 as the first member of the People Operations team. Vaghar oversees all aspects of People Operations, including Talent Acquisition and the full employee experience. Vaghar is passionate about helping companies scale, while maintaining an industry leading employee experience and maximizing employee retention.Vaghar is a seasoned HR Operational Leader with over 15 years of experience in driving organizational growth and efficiency. With a strong background in organizational development, system implementation, and strategic analysis, Vaghar has a proven track record of enhancing company growth, while establishing and/or maintaining thriving company cultures. His expertise spans across business forecasting, capital strategies, team building, and HR compliance.Throughout his career, Vaghar has held leadership positions at innovative healthcare organizations such as Gateway Learning Group, and CID Management. He has consistently demonstrated his ability to build high-performing teams, drive key initiatives, and facilitate growth. Vaghar's notable achievements include redesigning employee experience cycles, resulting in significant increases in retention and revenue, implementing multiple ATS and HRIS systems, and developing complex automated payroll systems that drastically reduced overhead costs.With a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering & Minor in Mathematics from San Jose State University, Vaghar combines his technical acumen with strong operational leadership to deliver impactful results in the HR and operations space.


Dhruv Swaroop, MBA
Dhruv joined BillionToOne in July 2021, after several years spent working in finance, technology and healthcare in the United States, Singapore, and India. He is excited to bring those diverse experiences and perspectives to something he is passionate about—using innovation to improve individuals’ health and quality of life. Dhruv focuses on providing the best technology solutions to patients and providers, including EMR integrations, portals and other software tools that improve turnaround time and efficiency.Dhruv received his MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management, where he was awarded the Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship Fellowship, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.


Laurentius von Liechti, MSc
Laurentius von Liechti is a veteran technology leader and engineering executive with over two decades of experience driving innovation across healthcare, AI, and digital platforms. As Senior Director of Software Engineering at BillionToOne, Laurentius leads software development initiatives that support the company’s mission to make molecular diagnostics more accurate and accessible.Laurentius brings a track record of high-impact leadership at fast-scaling startups and public companies alike. Prior to joining BillionToOne, he served as Chief Technology Officer at Kaia Health, where he oversaw R&D, security, compliance, and operations, and played a pivotal role in tripling annual recurring revenue and advancing the company’s AI-driven digital therapeutics. He has also held CTO and similar roles at Autolist (acquired by CarGurus), Dictionary.com, and TrueCar, where he helped lead the company through a successful IPO.Laurentius holds a Master’s in Applied Artificial Intelligence from the University of San Diego and a BSc in Computer Science from California Lutheran University. He has also completed executive and professional programs in business (Stanford GSB), product (SVPG), human-computer interface design (Carnegie Mellon), and database systems (CMU Software Engineering Institute), and is a Stanford GSB alum.


Karel Hurka
Karel joined BillionToOne in March of 2022. He brings 20+ years of experience in all facets of supply chain and materials management spanning inventory management, purchasing, ERP systems, cold chain, production planning, warehousing operations, and vendor & CMO management. His past biotech work experiences include Pendulum Therapeutics, CareDx, Adaptive Biotechnologies, Genomic Health, and Applied Biosystems.Karel Started his career with Monsanto upon graduation from the University of South Carolina with a BS in Business Administration - Finance.
